Janine Gutierrez Stuns in Purple at Tokyo Film Fest

TOKYO – Janine Gutierrez turned heads in a custom deep-purple @_rrpineda gown on the red carpet of the 37th Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) at Tokyo Midtown Hibiya on Monday. The 35-year-old actress represented Lav Diaz’s four-hour black-and-white Philippine drama “Phantosmia,” featured in the festival’s World Focus section.

Gutierrez plays Reyna in the film, which stars Ronnie Lazaro as Hilarion Zabala, a character plagued by a mysterious olfactory condition thought to be a lingering case of phantosmia.

“So happy to be here,” she shared on X, reposting a video from the Filipino-Japanese Journal showing her on the TIFF stage.

On the red carpet, she greeted Japanese and foreign fans, warmly accommodating photo and autograph requests.

“Phantosmia” screens on Nov. 2 at Humantrust Cinema Yurakucho and on Nov. 5 at Marunouchi Toei. The film is set to come home to Manila after its screenings at international festivals in Tokyo, Venice, Vienna and Busan. - Florenda Corpuz
