TOKYO – The number of Filipino workers in Japan has grown, even as the yen’s depreciation raises concerns about the country’s appeal as a foreign work destination amid ongoing labor shortages.

MANILA/TOKYO –  The Japanese Embassy in Manila has advised Filipino tourists to apply for visas at least two months before their intended travel dates, citing longer processing times due to a surge in applications.

MANILA – Japanese tourists ranked as the third-largest group of foreign visitors to the Philippines in 2024, according to the Department of Tourism (DOT).

TOKYO – The Land of the Rising Sun welcomed 818,700 visitors from the Philippines in 2024, a 31.6% increase from the previous year, according to preliminary data from the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO).
