TOKYO – The number of Filipino nationals living in Japan rose to 349,714 as of the end of June 2025, up 8,196 from six months earlier, according to data released by the Immigration Services Agency.
Filipinos remained the fourth-largest group of foreign residents in the Land of the Rising Sun, following Chinese, Vietnamese and South Korean nationals.
Japan’s total foreign resident population reached a record high of 3,956,619 during the period. Chinese nationals accounted for the largest share at 900,738, followed by 660,483 Vietnamese and 409,584 South Koreans.
By residency status, permanent residents made up the largest category, totaling 932,090.
Tokyo had the highest number of foreign residents at 775,340, followed by Osaka, Aichi, Kanagawa and Saitama prefectures.
In separate data, the number of people overstaying their visas in Japan stood at 71,229 as of July 1, 2025, down 3,634 from 74,863 recorded on Jan. 1, the agency said. Of those, 4,575 were Filipinos, a decrease of 109 from the same period. - Florenda Corpuz
