Filipino Tourist Arrivals in Japan Continue to Rise

TOKYO – The number of Filipino tourists visiting Japan saw a slight increase in February, according to preliminary data from the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO).

An estimated 66,700 visitors from the Philippines traveled to the Land of the Rising Sun last month, marking a 2.3% increase compared to the same period last year, JNTO reported.

Japan recorded a total of 3,258,100 foreign tourist arrivals in February, a 16.9% increase year-over-year. The Philippines ranked as the ninth-largest source of visitors, following South Korea, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, the United States, Thailand, Australia, and Vietnam.

Meanwhile, the Japanese Embassy in Manila recently announced the opening of a new Japan Visa Application Center (JVAC) in five key Philippine cities: Cebu City, Davao City, Makati City, Parañaque City, and Quezon City. The centers will begin operations on April 7. - Florenda Corpuz
