MANILA – President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Tuesday congratulated Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on her decisive election victory and reaffirmed the Philippines’ commitment to deepening ties with Japan.
Marcos said Takaichi’s win in the Feb. 8 national election, led by the ruling Liberal Democratic Party, reflected a strong mandate from the Japanese people.
“A landslide victory and a powerful mandate from the Japanese people. Congratulations to Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on this historic win,” Marcos said in a statement.
The president described Japan as a close friend and trusted partner of the Philippines and highlighted its leadership role in regional affairs.
Marcos said the Philippines looks forward to working with Japan’s new leadership to further strengthen cooperation and their regional partnership.
“As ASEAN Chair, we look forward to working closely with your government to strengthen our partnership and move forward together in advancing stability, cooperation, and shared growth across the Indo-Pacific,” he said.
The Philippines and Japan are marking the 70th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations this year. - FJJ
