With the sharp rise in foreign visitors to Japan in recent years, Kyoto is once again at the top of every traveler’s bucket list, known for its temples, timeless traditions, and rich cultural heritage. And when it comes to choosing the ideal place to stay, one name consistently stands out: The Royal Park Hotel Kyoto Umekoji.
And why not? The Royal Park Hotel Kyoto Umekoji offers a warm, welcoming atmosphere that makes you feel at home from the moment you arrive. Nestled in a quiet neighborhood and conveniently close to train stations, the hotel combines comfort and accessibility. With well-designed rooms, friendly staff, a relaxing ambiance, and thoughtful amenities, it has everything you need for a memorable stay in Kyoto.
Modern Comfort in Old Kyoto
Opened in 2021, The Royal Park Hotel Kyoto Umekoji is an ideal choice for families as well as both small and large groups, offering 246 thoughtfully designed rooms and a warm, welcoming atmosphere in the heart of Umekoji Park. Guests can choose from spacious Superior Twin Rooms, exclusive Suite Rooms, and the one-of-a-kind Train Rooms, which feature playful train-themed décor, including a large photo panel above the bed showcasing the N700 and 500 series Shinkansen, train-designed bedding, and Shinkansen-shaped body pillows.

Yasutaka Ishizaki, manager of The Royal Park Hotel Kyoto Umekoji, notes that while there are four Royal Park Hotels in Kyoto, this branch stands out as the only one located outside the downtown area. Many guests, particularly foreign tourists, are drawn to its peaceful surroundings and family-friendly atmosphere.
“Many families come here. Our main target is families,” Ishizaki tells Filipino-Japanese Journal. “Every hotel, every city is different. Every guest is different. So we always try to offer the service that suits each guest. That’s what we focus on.”
“At the previous hotel where I worked, we mostly had business guests, many from foreign companies. About 80 to 90 percent were foreigners. They came for business, so they mostly stayed in their rooms. The service there was smarter and more efficient. But here in Umekoji, it’s different. We also have business travelers, but mostly families and tourists. So the service is more relaxed and personal,” he adds.

Inside, the hotel blends modern comfort with subtle Japanese design, creating a soothing space to unwind after a day of exploring Kyoto. The hotel also caters to family travel with kid-friendly amenities available on request, such as bottle warmers, pajamas, coloring pencils, and even cooling gel sheets for fevers.
Another highlight is the on-site restaurant, where children aged 0 to under elementary school age enjoy complimentary breakfast when sharing a bed with their parents. Served on a fun Shinkansen-themed plate, breakfast becomes a delightful start to the day. Meanwhile, adults can savor local Kyoto flavors, including freshly baked Shinshin-do bread and Umegoromo Beef Curry.

To complete the experience, the hotel features a serene public bath where guests can relax and recharge together after a full day of sightseeing.
