Fumio Kishida Officially Becomes Japan’s 100th Prime Minister

TOKYO – Japan’s parliament, the Diet, on Monday elected Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) President Fumio Kishida as the nation’s 100th prime minister succeeding Yoshihide Suga.

Kishida served as Shinzo Abe’s foreign minister for more than four years.

He described his cabinet as “the Cabinet forging a new era together.”

“We will create a new era together with you, the citizens,” the 64-year-old top diplomat said.
