TOKYO – Japan welcomed 46,600 visitors from the Philippines in September, the highest number ever recorded for that month, according to data released Wednesday by the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO).

This figure represents a 9% increase from the previous year and a 23.4% rise compared to September 2019, before the pandemic.

The cumulative number of Filipino tourists in the first nine months of the year reached an estimated 542,800, making the Philippines Japan’s eighth-largest market for foreign visitors, trailing behind South Korea, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, the United States, Thailand, and Australia.

Meanwhile, the number of foreign visitors to the Land of the Rising Sun hit a record high for the month, totaling 2,872,200. - Florenda Corpuz
