By Florenda Corpuz

TOKYO – Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos will pay a state visit to Japan from May 26 to 29, Japan’s Foreign Ministry said Friday.

The visit comes as the Philippines and Japan mark the 70th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations this year.

During their stay, Marcos and the first lady are scheduled to make a state call on Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako. The imperial couple will also host a state banquet in their honor.

Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi is expected to hold a summit meeting with Marcos to discuss bilateral cooperation and regional issues.

The visit is expected to further strengthen ties between Japan and the Philippines, the ministry said.

Marcos has visited Japan three times since taking office, including twice in 2023 and once in 2025.
