TOKYO – The Philippines emerged as one of Japan’s top tourist markets in July, with 55,500 arrivals.
Preliminary data from the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) showed that the Philippines ranked as the sixth-largest tourist market for the country last month, reflecting a 7.3% increase from the same period last year and raising the total number of Filipino tourists to 457,300 from January to July.
China recorded the highest number of visitors to Japan, with 776,500 arrivals, followed by South Korea with 757,700. Taiwan came in third with 571,700 visitors, Hong Kong was fourth with 279,100, and the United States ranked fifth with 251,200 arrivals.
The Land of the Rising Sun welcomed 3,292,500 foreign visitors last month, bringing the total to 21,069,900 in the first seven months of the year. - Florenda Corpuz
