Dingdong Dantes is hard to miss these days. He remains a familiar face on primetime television as the lead actor of GMA Network’s high-rated series “Master Cutter” and the host of “Family Feud Philippines,” with both shows airing daily.
For more than two decades in show business, the Kapuso homegrown talent has grown accustomed to wearing many hats and portraying a wide range of characters – from a teenage heartthrob and romantic leading man to an action hero, dramatic actor, leader in the entertainment industry and devoted family man.
And this is what makes him stand out: Dingdong has remained relevant through the years by embracing new challenges and taking on roles that continue to showcase his versatility as an actor.
Stepping Into More Than One Character
Much like his character in “Master Cutter,” Dingdong proves his versatility as an actor as he takes on the role of Atoy Padua, a highly skilled Scout Ranger who chooses to live a quiet life as a tailor while secretly working as a manhunter and tracker-for-hire. Behind the closed doors of his tailoring shop, Atoy becomes the go-to person for those seeking justice, tracking down criminals, and even recovering stolen prized gamefowl.
For Dingdong, transforming physically and stepping into lives vastly different from his own can be a daunting challenge.

“The challenging part was entering different kinds of characters,” Dingdong shared during the series’ press conference. “You’ll see me as a clown, a mafia character, and even as a nun. Physically, it was challenging, but at the same time, it was so much fun.”
For an actor who has spent years building an impressive body of work on television, “Master Cutter” offered something refreshingly unfamiliar, allowing him to explore sides of his craft that he had never fully tapped before.
“It’s something I haven’t done in all my years on television. And now it’s going to be shown across Southeast Asia through Netflix. That’s something that really excites me. Yes, it’s challenging, but at the same time, it’s also very, very rewarding,” he said.
His hard work is paying off as the series, which also aired on GMA-7, continues to dominate the ratings since its premiere in May. The action-drama debuted at No. 1 on Netflix’s “Top 10 TV Shows in the Philippines Today.”
Asked why he immediately accepted the project, Dantes said there was simply no reason to turn it down.

“I think there’s no reason to say no if you’re given such a beautiful project like this,” he said, praising the ensemble cast and director Dominic Zapata for bringing the ambitious production together.
More than the spectacle and action sequences, however, it was the story that convinced him.
“At the heart of the story, more than the spectacle and more than the action scenes that you will see, it’s really the heart of the story,” he explained. “It’s all about a modern family story. It’s all about different types of relationships.”
