Duterte Thanks Japan for 2M AstraZeneca Vaccine Donation

MANILA/TOKYO – President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday expressed his gratitude to Japan for its donation of about two million doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.

“We thank the Japanese government for their donation of close to 2 million doses of life-saving vaccines,” he mentioned in his pre-recorded address.

“Indeed, Japan is a friend closer than a brother ready to help in times of need,” he continued.

Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi announced last Oct. 15 this second novel coronavirus vaccine provision to the Philippines.

Duterte was among the officials who welcomed the arrival of the 1,124,100 shots of domestically manufactured AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine, the first provision from Japan, last July. - FJJ
