Japan to Receive 144M Doses of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine

TOKYO – Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) has signed a contract with Pfizer Inc. to receive approximately 144 million doses of the drugmaker’s COVID-19 vaccine sufficient for 72 million people this year, Pfizer Japan announced on Wednesday.

Last year, the Japanese government had reached a basic agreement with the U.S. pharmaceutical giant and its German partner BioNTech SE for the supply of 120 million doses for 60 million people.
