Japan’s Foreign Minister to Attend Marcos Jr.’s Inauguration

TOKYO – Japanese Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi announced on Tuesday his three-day visit to Manila to attend Philippine president-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.'s inauguration ceremony on June 30.

Hayashi said he will serve as a special envoy of Prime Minister Fumio Kishida to witness the ceremony.

He told reporters at a press conference that he will have meetings with Marcos Jr., incoming Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio and other senior officials of the Philippine government.

“Philippines is Japan’s important strategic partner in the region. Through this visit, the cooperation toward realizing a free and open Indo-Pacific will be affirmed and bilateral relations will further be enhanced,” he said. - Florenda Corpuz
