Marian Rivera: From Box Office Triumph to Prime Time Return

A few months ago, Marian Rivera was promoting her film “Rewind,” which was an entry at the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) last December, starring alongside her actor-husband Dingdong Dantes.

It was the real-life couple’s comeback film after 13 years, which became the highest-grossing film of all time in Philippine showbiz. It surpassed the Php900-million mark, including Php54 million in earnings from the U.S., Canada, and Australia. “Rewind” also became the top film on Netflix upon its release on March 25.

This feat shows the star power that Marian has amassed over the years, shining brightly as time passes by.

Fresh off the success of “Rewind,” Marian is back with another acting project, marking her return to prime-time television after five years with a series entitled “My Guardian Alien.”

Playing an Alien for the First Time

Touted as the “Primetime Queen,” it’s a given that the Kapuso A-lister is presented with various acting opportunities. With her stature, she has definitely earned the power to choose the projects she would like to be involved in.

One of her main considerations in accepting a project is whether it’s something she can proudly present to her children.

The feel-good series with a touch of sci-fantasy that Marian has chosen is “My Guardian Alien,” in which she portrays an alien for the first time in her acting career.

“So, ito na nga iyong ‘Guardian Alien.’ Kita niyo naman ang OBB, parang worth it lahat ang limang taon na paghihintay para gawin ito.”

The series revolves around the story of Katherine, played by Marian, who enjoys an ideal and happy family life until she meets an accident and dies, leaving her husband Carlos and son Doy devastated. Subsequently, a mysterious pod falls to Earth, and the alien in it assumes the form of the deceased Katherine.

Marian’s husband is portrayed by Gabby Concepcion, while Raphael Landicho plays her son. The cast also includes Max Collins, Gabby Eigenmann, Marissa Delgado, Kiray Celis, Josh Ford, Caitlyn Stave, and Christian Antolin. - Words by Len Armea, Photos courtesy of GMA
