TOKYO – Japan’s appeal as a tourist destination remains strong for visitors from the Philippines, as the country welcomed a significant influx of 49,900 Filipino tourists last month, according to a preliminary report released by the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) on June 21.
The figure represents 83.8% of the pre-pandemic levels witnessed in May 2019.
The Land of the Rising Sun received a total of 1,898,900 tourist arrivals during the same period, with the Philippines securing the seventh spot among countries contributing to Japan’s tourism market. - Florenda Corpuz
