Filipino Visitors to Japan from January to October Break Annual Record

TOKYO – The number of Filipino visitors to Japan from January to October surpassed 600,000, setting a new annual record, the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) reported.

A total of 623,000 Filipino tourists traveled to Japan during the 10-month period, a 29.9 percent increase from the same timeframe last year.

In October alone, 80,200 visitors from the Philippines were recorded, marking a 15.9 percent rise from a year earlier.

The JNTO said the approaching autumn leaves had boosted travel demand to the Land of the Rising Sun.

The Philippines is Japan’s eighth-largest source of foreign visitors, following South Korea, China, Taiwan, the United States, Hong Kong, Thailand, and Australia.

Japan welcomed a record-breaking 3,312,000 foreign visitors in October, marking a 31.6 percent increase compared to the same month last year. This figure represents the highest number of visitors in a single month. Through October, the cumulative total reached 30,192,600, surpassing the 30-million mark at the fastest pace since records began in 1964, according to the JNTO. - Florenda Corpuz
