Fujifilm Announces Launch of its COVID-19 Detection Kit for Indian, Californian Variants

TOKYO – Fujifilm Wako Pure Chemical Corporation on Monday announced the launch of its mutation detection kit that can identify L452R, the COVID-19 variant first detected in India and California and recently found in Japan’s capital.

The Fujifilm unit’s detection kit uses reagent chemicals to detect mutations in SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, and can give results in approximately 100 minutes.

Aside from developing detection kits, Fujifilm, generally known as a camera and office equipment company, is conducting a new late-stage trial in the country of its antiviral drug Avigan as a potential COVID-19 treatment. - Florenda Corpuz
