CHIBA – Hollywood actors received an enthusiastic welcome from fans at Tokyo Comic Con 2024 held from Dec. 6 to 8 at Makuhari Messe.

The event, a highlight of Japan’s pop culture calendar since its inception in 2016, featured both returning stars and first-time guests, who expressed gratitude for the warm reception.

Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen, a Comic Con favorite best known for his roles as supervillain Kaecilius in “Doctor Strange” and Dr. Hannibal Lecter in the television series “Hannibal,” thanked fans for their support.

“Tokyo, you did it again,” he said. “As always, you have been wonderful people.”

Hugh Dancy, visiting Japan for the first time, called the experience unforgettable.

“Thank you, Tokyo, for your warm, generous, and kind welcome,” said Dancy, who portrayed protagonist Will Graham in “Hannibal.” “You made my first visit to Japan so memorable, and I cannot wait to return.”

Benedict Cumberbatch, another returning guest known for his roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, praised the creativity of fans.

“Your costumes and cosplay have been mind-blowingly brilliant,” he said. “As ever, you’ve been so hospitable to all of us. We feel so welcome here.”

Jude Law, surprised with an early birthday celebration on the event’s final day, was touched by the outpouring of affection.

“Wow, a little early, but I’ll take it. Thank you so much,” said Law, who has starred in “Harry Potter” and “Sherlock Holmes.” “I wish you all a happy holiday, a merry Christmas.”

“Aquaman” star Jason Momoa, known for his energetic presence, greeted fans with a mix of Japanese and Hawaiian expressions.

“Aloha, Tokyo! Tadaima! Konnichiwa!” he said.

The next Tokyo Comic Con is set for Dec. 5 to 7, 2025. Fans in western Japan can look forward to Osaka Comic Con, scheduled for May 2 to 4 the same year.
