Japan Says it Wants Close Ties with New Philippine President

TOKYO – The Japanese government on Tuesday said Japan wants to step up its relationship with the Philippines following Monday’s presidential election in the Southeast Asian nation.

“Philippines is an important strategic partner in the region. We would like to have close ties with the next president,” Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno told a press conference.
