TOKYO – The Japanese government will consider a proposal to hand out 100,000 yen in cash to each person without setting an income limit to help alleviate hardships brought on by the new coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.
Komeito leader Natsuo Yamaguchi made the proposal to Prime Minister Shinzo Abe during a meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office on Wednesday.
“The government is poised to consider what was proposed by Mr. Yamaguchi,” Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said at a press conference earlier today, adding that “That was the response of Mr. Abe.”
The government earlier announced that it will provide 300,000 yen to households whose monthly income has dropped due to the virus. - Florenda Corpuz
