TOKYO – Three months after leading a strong Filipino films contingent at the 31st Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF), National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts Eric de Guia a.k.a. Kidlat Tahimik will be back in Japan to attend an exhibition featuring his masterpieces.
The acclaimed filmmaker’s retrospective will be shown at Theater Image Forum in Shibuya from Jan. 26 to Feb. 22. He is scheduled to participate at a talk event on Jan. 26 and 27.
His film “BalikBayan #1: Memories of Overdevelopment Redux VI,” a filmic voyage spanning 35 years, will have a theatrical release at the same theater also on Jan. 26. It follows the odyssey of Enrique de Malacca, slave of Magellan, the first man (a Filipino in Kidlat’s fancy) to circumnavigate the world.
Kidlat’s films will also be screened at Ciné Nouveau in Osaka starting March 9.
