Japan Extends COVID-19 State of Emergency Until End of September

TOKYO – Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga’s administration approved on Thursday the further extension of the current state of emergency until Sept. 30 in Tokyo and 18 other prefectures over the novel coronavirus pandemic as the number of severely ill patients remains at a high level.

Suga announced the extension of the emergency measure previously set to expire on Sunday, and the removal of Miyagi and Okayama from the list of 21 prefectures under the declaration. - Florenda Corpuz
