TOKYO – Japan will confer one of its highest state honors on Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. during his state visit next week, while First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos will also receive a prestigious imperial decoration, the Japanese government announced Friday.
Marcos will be awarded the Grand Cordon of the Supreme Order of the Chrysanthemum, while the first lady will receive the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Precious Crown during their four-day trip beginning May 26.
Chief Cabinet Secretary Minoru Kihara said the decorations are intended to promote friendly ties and strengthen relations between Japan and the Philippines.
The visit coincides with the 70th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Japan and the Philippines, as the two countries continue to expand cooperation in security, economic and regional affairs. - Florenda Corpuz
