More Than 190K Doses of Pfizer’s COVID-19 Vaccine Land in Philippines

MANILA – The Philippines on Monday night received 193,050 donated doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine from the COVAX Facility.

The National Task Force Against Covid19 and the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) welcomed the arrival of the vaccine doses at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 2, which are scheduled to be distributed in the National Capital Region (NCR), Cebu City, Davao City, and other major cities that can handle the required temperature of -70 °C.

The Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine, which was given Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Jan. 14, has an overall efficacy rate of 95%. It will be the fourth vaccine brand to be used in the country’s inoculation drive after Sinovac, AstraZeneca and Sputnik V. - FJJ
